How to Create a QR Code for Google Maps Location
Step-by-step guide to generating a QR code that opens a specific Google Maps location when scanned.
Why Use a QR Code for Google Maps?
Sharing a physical address as text requires the recipient to copy it, open a maps app, and paste it in. A Google Maps QR code skips all of that — one scan opens the exact location with turn-by-turn navigation ready. This is invaluable for event invitations, business cards, flyers, and storefront signage.
Whether you are inviting guests to a wedding venue, directing customers to your new store location, or helping conference attendees find a meeting room, a location QR code eliminates confusion and saves time.
Method 1: Using the Location QR Generator
The simplest approach is to use our Location QR Code Generator. Enter the latitude and longitude of your location, or type the address. The tool generates a QR code that opens the location directly in the scanner's default maps application.
To find your coordinates, open Google Maps, right-click on your location, and click the coordinates to copy them. Paste them into the generator and your QR code is ready.
Method 2: Using a Google Maps Share Link
Open Google Maps in your browser, search for the location, and click the Share button. Copy the link — it will look something like maps.app.goo.gl/... — and use our URL QR Code Generator to encode it. This method preserves the place name and Google Maps interface.
Google Maps share links are shorter than full URLs, which produces a cleaner, less dense QR code that scans more reliably at smaller sizes.
Printing and Placement Tips
For invitations and business cards, print the QR code at least 0.75 inches square. For outdoor signage, use at least 3 inches. Always include a text label like 'Scan for Directions' so people know what the code does before scanning.
Test the QR code on both iPhone and Android before printing. Some map links behave differently across platforms — the Google Maps share link is the most universal option.
